Cruiser Equipment
|
We have some of the most state of the art equipment available to Law Enforcement in our cruisers. Our typical cruiser is a Ford Crown Victoria, four door sedan.  Seven of our cruisers include equipment from the University of New Hampshire Project 54. Project 54 is Federally supported by the U.S. Department of Justice as a grant project. The goal of the project is to make the operation of the Police Cars emergency equipment hands free. That lets the Officer focus on safely operating the car. Project 54 integrates many of the cars systems, radio, lights, siren, radar, and GPS into the cars laptop computer. By pressing a button on the steering wheel the Officer can issue voice commands to the cars systems. For example, "All Bar" activates the overhead "Blue" lights so a Traffic Violator can be pulled over. Our cars also carry the equipment to protect and process accident and crime scenes. We also equip each unit with Stop Sticks in the event of a vehicle pursuit. The most frequently used tool for Officers is the Laptop Computer. Our computers are Data Linked by IP Mobile Net Hardware to the Hampton Police Station using a separate radio frequency. Unlike other agencies around us we are not dependant upon Cell Service Providers for connectivity. Our data is transmitted securely from point to point at 64 Kbps. It's so fast, it's almost like being at a workstation in the building. Used in conjunction with our Information Management Corporation (IMC) Police Mobile Software the Officer on the road can check for wanted persons and stolen vehicles. Officers can use IMC Mobile to write reports while on the road instead of having to return to the station. Our local IMC Database, New Hampshire Motor Vehicle information, and NCIC can all be accessed in real time by the Officer from their cruiser so they can view mugshots, prior contacts, license and warrant info. This is very important to protect the Officer and provide quality service to our community. Using the computer, Officers can talk amongst themselves car to car, or with the Dispatch Center when the need arises. This allows Sensitive information to be exchanged privately to avoid disclosure of our operations to parties who don't have a need to know. |
